“Light a candle, find a ritual, find a prayer…”

If there is anything I know to be true it is that the Psalms offer us the comfort of knowing so many desired peace, justice & freedom from harm. These cries for salvation, desperation and need weren’t buried within the canon – they were given display in a massive collection of the people seeking God’s unrelenting comfort.

It’s been such a long time since I’ve been able to write music that weren’t ripped from YouTube beats. In a tiny hole on the internet, I’ve started collecting new music to try and reconnect with myself.

Here’s “A Psalm” for the people.

Here’s a modernized version of my own:

Show me the beauty in me
I’ve forgotten the peace you washed over me
This body is tired & I’m thirsty for everything you give to me

Where’s the message gone
Where’d the people go
Why they fight so much
Just to be alone

When I was born
You spoke over me
You said I’ll never leave you lonely; I’ll never leave you thirsty
I’ll give you peace; I’ll give you protection
God I’m lonely
I need your protection
Hear my cry

Where’s the message gone
Where’d the people go
Why they fight so much
Just to be alone

Show me the beauty in me
I’ve forgotten the peace you washed over me
Where’s the need
Show me the beauty in me
I’ve forgotten the peace you washed over me
I’m so thirsty

Give me peace like a river
Give us peace like a river

I don’t wanna see no more fighting over me
only victories
Give me peace in me

When I was born
You spoke over me
You said I’ll never leave you lonely
God I know you’ll never leave me
When I was born
You spoke over me
You said I’ll never leave you
God I’ll never leave you
